The Democratic Alliance Johannesburg South Constituency commemorated Human Rights day by visiting the Apartheid Museum. “Although many of our Councillors and activists had other commitments on that day, we managed to get a sizable number of DA members together to commemorate this day,” explained Manny de Freitas MP, Member of Parliament for Johannesburg South.

De Freitas said that we must never forget the human rights violations committed against South Africans in the past so that they are not repeated in future. “The Apartheid museum serves as a perfect reminder of the system of Apartheid which itself was a human rights violation,” said de Freitas.

Manny de Freitas said that it was clearly demonstrated to him, when the youth that participated in the visit to the museum, were seeing the museum displays from completely different eyes as they had not experienced Apartheid themselves as they were born after 1994. “This public holiday and the Apartheid museum is more important than ever for these young people,” clarified de Freitas.

Manny de Freitas concluded by saying that in ensuring and understanding human rights within the South African context we can ensure that together all South Africans can build a united and prosperous future for our future generations.
